Before you can have a deck built, you need to decide how you will use your space.
Our tip: Go outside and place your patio furniture in the area where you think you’d like a deck. Don’t forget the grill, lounge chairs and any other furniture/accessories. Also plan for the items you don’t have yet, like a fire pit or hot tub.
Give yourself space to cook and entertain and then mark the area for the deck with string, yard paint, stakes, pool noodles, whatever you have on hand. Decide if it’s enough space and then take measurements. Now you’re ready to talk to a contractor and draw up plans for your deck!
